I remember getting a DM from a celebrity fashion stylist, asking me to assist with styling for a music video featuring Seyi Shay and Teyana Taylor. I’d say one of the most memorable parts of that day wasn’t even the shoot itself — it was Teyana’s daughter. Easily one of the cutest little humans I’ve seen in a long time. Her speech, her energy, her kindness — you could feel it the moment she walked into any room.

Can’t say for sure if it’s the result of growing up with wealth, but whatever it is — her parents are definitely doing something right with her.

After styling all the dancers and participants, I pulled out my phone to capture some of the most striking expressions of African fashion and style we pulled together — all from scraps, layers, and a whole lot of creative instinct.

At some point, I ended up styling myself and jumping into the video during the final dance-off toward the end. It was totally unplanned, but sometimes you just have to go with the energy in the room.

One wild thing I’ll never forget — all the camera batteries died. Completely. And the crew didn’t have a single charger on hand. So the final part of the music video? It was filmed on an iPhone. That’s why there’s a noticeable shift in quality near the end — but honestly, it kind of added to the rawness and spontaneity of the whole thing.
